I paint fruits and vegetables due to my love of cooking. In this study of radishes, I was drawn to the contrast between their lush, unruly greens and the vivid reds of the roots, set against a cool violet ground. I used thick, expressive brushwork to emphasize their weight, texture, and freshness, letting the paint itself feel as tactile as the vegetables. The curling roots and layered leaves create movement, while the bold color relationships push the still life beyond simple observation. For me, this piece is about abundance, immediacy, and the quiet beauty of something freshly gathered from the earth.
